I also have a relative -killed -by- a- train story. In this case, the
paper reported
him "dismembered and decapitated." My husband contends a train couldn't
disarticulate a body that way, but I suspect it's just the means of
explaining a very mangled body...nowhere did it say the remains were neat.
It happened in Greene County, and involved a young man who'd been
drinking. I think hopping a coal car for short trips was a very common
method
of getting somewhere in those days when hardly anyone owned a vehicle.
Usually these accidents happened after dark.
