Surname: Burke, Burk, Hocket, Tilly, Tilley
-------------------------
I am looking for information on a John Burke as listed in an 1870 Clay
County,Indiana (Van Buren Township) census. It shows John Burke was born
in Ireland but no year. He was 35 years old, Wife Mariah also 35 was born
in Ohio. Children listed, Thomas 13yrs (possibly was adopted by John Burke,
last name could have been Hocket) born in Ohio, Pheobe 10yrs, John M 8yrs,
James 6yrs, David 1yr, all born in Indiana. In an 1860 Clay county, Van
Buren township census it lists James Burk as 24 born in Ireland, wife Mariah
25, born in Ohio, Children Phebe E 7 mos born in Indiana. William H Hocket
5 Yrs born in Ohio, Davis T Hocket 4yrs born in Ohio. This John and James
are I believe the same person, one of those must have been a first name
and a middle name. There may have been more children possibly a Peter Burk.
It appears that something happened to John Burke as there is a Clay Co.
marriage of a Mariah Burke to a Burley E Tilly on Sept 25,1876. Mariah
Tilly, Burley Tilly, Pheobe Burke, David Burke, Peter Burk are buried at
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sullivan County IN, just west of Coalmont IN.
Any information is greatly welcomed.
