This is curious. I checked the records on CivilWarData.com which has a listing
of all the Indiana Regiments, and there is no listing for a Deich.
As a matter of fact, the only Deich is Valentine Deich, from the 49th Indiana
Also, Valentine enlisted on 3/13/64, and out on 9/13/65. So this would make him
unlikely to be in the 13th, unless it was before the 49th. The 13th was created late,
so this is unlikely as well.
Their are no other Deich's in the Union Army, according to the listing,
Several Deicher, Deichler, and Deichmen, but only one Deich, and again,
that's Valentine.
So, the plot thickens!!
Interesting!
The only other option I can see, is to send off for the Pension records, for
Valentine, and perhaps check and see if they have a John Deich in the
National archives.
