Seeking contacts with others researching Overtons of Indiana and Tennessee. The following is information on my 3rd GGF
Moses and his family left Summitville, Coffee County, traveling by oxen wagon and a horse Moses borrowed from Elijah Fletcher, his father-in-law. They first went to Lawrence County, Indiana. Moses purchased a parcel of land in Daviess County on 14 June 1839, they moved to Daviess County and purchased another parcel the 26th of October.
After Moses had been in Indiana for some time, he received a letter from Elijah wanting his horse back, and soon. Moses took the horse back to Manchester or Summitville right away and walked back to Indiana.
Moses prospered in Indiana and acquired more land, becoming one of the largest landholders in Madison Township. The last recorded parcel acquired in neighboring Van Buren Township 13 Feb 1845 was in Susanna's name. They concentrated on farming and stock raising.
Moses and Susanna raised their grandson James, the son of their daughter Isabelle. James took the surname Overton.
Apparently Moses and Susanna parceled out most of their landholdings amongst their children during their later years. Susanna died 8 August 1877, Moses spent the remainder of his life residing with his youngest son Manford. Moses died on 20 May 1883. They rest side by side between the graves of Julius Overton and Ida Pearl Overton in the southeast corner of the old Odon cemetery.

!Birth: Family Bible
!Death: Obituary
Family story about Moses crossing over the mountains with his father when he was 6 years old was passed down to Rosemary (Overton) Kinnaman by her grandfather Samuel R. Overton.
Census records reflect Moses birthplace as TN but an article in the History of Knox and Daviess Counties about his son Rezia published in 1888 had his birth place as NC. Moses could have been born in an area of NC which became part of TN.
