Brenda,

John M. Cunningham was most probably the son of Michael Cunningham and Julia
Shircliffe. The dates seem to fit...let me know if it is or not. Shirley

Children of Michael Cunningham and Julia Shircliffe:
Mary, Patrick, Andrew, Elizabeth A. (Eliza), Louis, Michael, John and Joseph.

Eliza was born 27 Jan 1855 and m. Thomas Addison Seal 9 Feb 1876 in Daviess
Co, IN. (The Seal line is one I had been researching.)

Notes on Michael Cunningham:

Michael Cunningham was born 1814/1815 in Ireland. His mother died in 1820,
leaving himself and a sister two years younger. His father died in 1830, and
then they lived with his mother's brother. At age 16, he began working for
himself for a $5.00 a year. By 1836 he and his sister had saved enough for
passage on a ship "Southerner" to the United States and landed in NY with
less than $5 between them. They worked
their way to Providence RI, then they took the ship "Havre" to Mobile, AL,
where yellow fever was raging. In 1838 he took a trip up Mississippi to
Chicago, then worked the river at Louisville, KY and for about 7 years worked
on Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. In 1840 friends prevailed upon him to buy
land in Daviess Co, IN. He bought 160 acres and rented it. He returned to
his farm every year to make improvements. In 1843 he moved to his farm and
kept house for himself, then the same year he married Julianna Shircliffe b.
1826, dau of John Shircliffe and Mary Gough (b. KY). The Shircliffes and
Goughs came from Maryland via Kentucky.
