Frightful Accident - P. R. Murphy, a Catholic Priest, well known to this community was killed on last Tuesday. The following account of the sad accident, we copy from the Evansville Courier: As the train on the Ohio and Mississippi railroad, bound east, was passing the junction at Vincent, Rev. P. R. MURPHY who was going to visit his relations in Daviess County, IN, learning that his baggage was not aboard of the train, on which he was traveling at the junction attempted to leave the train. He succeeded in making the jump from the car to the platform, but his feet were caught by the "trucks" and he was dragged under the wheels of the cars. His body was most horribly mangled, the ribs being broken from the back and the scalp of the head being torn from the cranium. Capt. C. C. GENUNG, who was present, rescued the unfortunate man, but not until he had suffered the fatal injuries. His body was carried to the Junction house, and at first it was thought that his injuries wou!
ld not prove fatal, but in two hours after the accident occurred, the man was a lifeless corpse. Rev. MURPHY is a native of Ireland, we believe. He was for a long time a priest at the Black Oak Ridge Church, in Daviess Co. but some years ago by the diocese of Indiana, was transferred to Chicago." He has many friends in this county, who will mourn his untimely end.
