JOS. M. JONES DIED TODAY AT D.C. HOSPITAL
Joseph Mason Jones, 87, former trustee of Harrison township and county councilman, died at this hospital at 2:45 o’clock this morning following a year’s illness. His condition had been serious for the past four weeks.
Mr. Jones was born in Harrison township on April 15, 1864, the son of William and Eliza (Collins) Jones. He was educated in the township schools and Franklin College. He was a teacher for many years and, of late years was occupied in farming. Mr. Jones was trustee of Harrison township from 1931 to 1939 and served on the Daviess county council from 1942 to 1950. He was a devoted member of the Aikman Creek Baptist church for over 50 years and served the church as teacher in the Sunday school, Sunday School superintendent and was church treasurer and deacon at the time of his death.
He leaves his widow, Sarah McCain Peachee whom he married December 26, 1907, with these children: James W. Jones, city, Bertha Gregory, Oris Jones, James Jones, Jr., Harrison, and Eula Brown, Evansville: Step-children: Preston and Bernard Peachee, Harrison, and Brank Peachee, Washington township. There are several grand and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mr. Jones was the last of a family of twelve children.
The body is in the Gill Mortuary where friends may call.
Hour of funeral is 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Aikman Creek Church with the burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ray Bartle will be assisted by the Rev. H.E. Laurit.
