The Daviess County Democrat, Washington, Indiana, February 22, 1879, page 4:

"MARRIED.

Mr. J. C. LAVELLE, deputy auditor, and Miss Mattie THOMPSON, only daughter of Mr. E. W. THOMPSON, a successful merchant of this city, quietly took the express train Monday night for Jeffersonville, where they were married Tuesday morning. They returned Wednesday night and are boarding at Mrs. J. K. WRIGHT's. The father of the bride is understood to have been opposed to the match. Both of the contracting parties, we believe, were of age. It is a matter that concerns only the interested parties, and the public is satisfied with hoping that "all may be well that ends well."
