The Daviess County Democrat, Washington, Indiana, May 17, 1879, page 4:
"TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. CRUSHED TO DEATH BY A FALLING TREE.
Mr. Patrick WEEKS, of this city, met with an accident last Monday afternoon that resulted fatally in a few hours afterward. He was at his farm in the forks of Prairie Creek, about eight miles from the city, and was doing some work on the fences. At four o'clock he was near a burning tree, his team being close. The tree began to crack and Mr. WEEKS ran to his team to get it out of all danger. Before he was able to do so the tree fell, smashing the wagon, killing a horse, and crushing Mr. WEEKS to the earth. Friends soon were on the gound and took him from under the timber, when it was found that he had received serious injuries across the spine. He was conveyed to a house, where he lay in great suffering until about three o'clock Tuesday morning when he died. Tuesday morning the body of Mr. WEEKS was brought to his residence in Turner's Addition, and on Wednesday morning was buried in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. WEEKS was about sixty-two years of age at the time of his!
death and leaves a wife and four children, the children all being grown."
