"MRS. COURTNEY DIES AT HOME IN WASHINGTON.
Mrs. Lavina COURTNEY, seventy-two years old, died last Wednesday afternoon at her home at Washington after an illness of two years of heart disease.
Mrs. COURTNEY, widow of Joseph COURTNEY, was born in Elmore township December 1, 1855. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (SATTERFIELD) DILLON and was reared in Daviess county. She was married to Mr. COURTNEY in 1881.
Of this union five children survive. They are R. P. (P. D.?) COURTNEY of Maplewood, N.J.; Mrs. Clarice RANKIN of Chicago, Mrs. Lois HOBBS of Rosewell, N.M., Mrs. Nell NOELTING of Saratoga, Fla., and Mrs. Ruth TRUEBLOOD of Albuquerque, N.M. She also leaves one brother, Samuel DILLON and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth HASTINGS and Mrs. Nancy HASTINGS, all of Elnora.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the First Christian church at Washington and burial was made in Walnut Hill near this city.
Mrs. COURTNEY formerly lived in this community and leaves many friends here who mourn her demise."
