DIED
Aug. 1st 1868, at the residence of Mr. A.O. Porter Shelbyville, Ind., after a
few hours illness, Mrs. Eliza Thompson, mother of John P. Thompson of this
city, in the 78 year of her age. Born in Lancaster Co., Penn. April 18th,
1795, her father removed to Maryland in her early childhood, where he
remained until her 14th year, came west, settling at, or near Bellview, Ky.,
in 1809 and located in Lawrenceburg in 1818, which had afterward been her
home up to the time of her death. She was married to Mr. James Thompson Aug.
9, 1829, joined the M.E. Church under the ministry of Nehemiah Griffith and
E.G. Wood in 1828 or 1829 and was left a widow Oct. 28th 1849.
She was on a visit for a few days at Shelbyville, when taken ill during
Thursday night or Friday morning with something like cholars morbus. She grew
rapidly worse, soon failing into a state of stupor and partial insensibility
and this continued until Saturday a few minutes before 10 o'clock P.M. shen
she ceased to live on earth. She was a good woman and doubtless with the
angels or God in heaven.
