yes I am searching for my gg grandfather Robert Ross.
His civil war papers say he was born in Lawrenceburg IN. best I
can tell he was born 1848 to 1850ish (family history says he lied on his
civil war papers).
this part is all speculation, about where this burial place is located.
(we believe his mother was full blood cherokee and was left behind
somewhere near lawrenceburg where many other cherokee died, she was left
behind to care for the dying at the time of the trail of tears. we do
not know her name. or Robert's Father we can make a guess though that
his fathers name was John or Willard. we do know he was a rich man and
white and donated a large parcel of land to bury all the dead Indians
from the trail of tears.)
Robert Ross enrolled in May 1864 for 100 days in CO I (I
think)Infantry.
them later in 1865 in Indianapolis ohio he signed up with CO H Heavy
Artillery Unit.
from what we understand he signed up on the south side first and they
kicked him out because he was too young (14 to 16 years old )and so he
signed up on the north<BG> guess he liked a good fight.
any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thank you renee
