Dear Philip;
Years ago I jotted down the following Durhams for Dearborn Co.
John Durham b. 1783 in Del. Md. 1808 to Catherine Conaway b. 1787 in
Del.
To this couple was born a daughter named Lovey Durham (b. 22
Jul., 1809 in Va.)
Lovey married William Bruce on Christmas Day 1835 in Dearborn Co., In.
William was the son of Amor Bruce.
Judging from the information I have (which I didn't document
properly way back when I first started doing research, I'm sorry to say)
I'd guess this information was taken from a biographical sketch in the
book on the history of Ohio and Dearborn Counties published around 1885.
It could be I got it from a family history stored in the Dearborn Co.
Public Library, however. I couldn't tell you for sure where I got it. I
just don't remember.
Obviously there were Durhams in Dearborn Co. much earlier than
the mid-late 1880s or Lovey wouldn't have been around to marry William.
Who-all was there besides her and her parents, I don't know. I would
suggest further perusal of census records and maybe marriage records if
you have access to them.
I live near the big LDS Family History library so if you don't
have access to the Ohio and Dearborn Co. History book and want me to
check it out, let me know. I could easily look the next time I go there.
My guess is the information I have came from a sketch on one of the
Bruces.
Sincerely,
Karen M Mittan
