Bhutto suddenly banned freemasonry in Pakistan saying that they were spying
for the 'enemy' It was soon after the loss of East Pakistan and Bhutto was
desperately looking for scapegoats to deflect the perception that he was
also to blame for East Pakistan's separation.

In Pakistan, for lacking of understanding of the 'secret society as it was
commonly perceived the Lodges were known as 'Jadu Ghars' ( Houses of Magic).
There is no record of any free mason's rubbing him the wrong way or why he
picked on them.

The membership was not widespread in Pakistani society but many Parsis were
members including one of my neighbors in Karachi's in the late '50's.

Warm regards,

Mike
formerly of Karachi now in New York
