Dear Listers,

Would anyone have a list of the old and new street names of Calcutta. My father worked at the office of the Morning News at 1, Waterloo Street or Road in the early '40s. Would anyone know the current name of this street.

Mike

Thank you very much indeed Harshwardhan for access to this site. I began
ith Arriving in Calcutta and have already found input from such a diversity
f people ..... people whose thoughts on Calcutta I for one, would not have
ad access to. The years 1940s did indeed make of Calcutta a city buzzing
ith 'extracurricular' events that affected the whole general populace. I
hink that if even any old rickshaw wallahs have survived, they would have
ales of their own to tell !
any thanks again Harshoo and - this is my first introduction as you can
ee, to the site !
ally

might have mentioned this page earlier. If so, this would be a repeat =

*** We are a group interested in finding out more and
resenting the history, life and culture of the Calcutta
f the 1940s. Our first aim is the capturing of the
ersonal reminiscences of Calcutta and surrounding
rea in one of its most dramatic decades i.e. from
939-1950. To illustrate these reminiscences, we
are also looking for old maps, pictures, newspaper
rticles, diaries etc.
Our second aim is to educate people about life in Calcutta
n the 1940s. To do that we are building up a virtual
useum on the internet, with the materials we have
ollected, where they can be publicly viewed sorted
y topics. Quite a bit of our material can already
e viewed on this website, in the sections 'Daily Life',
Communities', 'Guided Tours' and 'Historic Events'. ***
