Hi,
Can anyone advise me how to achieve further information, particularly
departure
and / or passenger records for the following from India -

Ship Name: PHANTOM
Captain:Captain Miller
Vessel type:Brig of 142 tons

Known movements : 24th September 1844 - arrived Calcutta, India
- sustained severe damage in the River (?)
1844 - registered at Calcutta
- laid up for repairs supposedly two years
? - sold by Captain Miller ( to whom unknown )
sold for 1400 pounds
6th January 1846 - arrived Tasmania, Australia.

My ancestor is supposed to have been transported to Tasmania on this
vessel. He had
been with the 9th Regiment of Foot at Kasauli ( north of Delhi near
Chandigari (?) ) He
was tried and courtmartialed at Kasauli and it seems logical that the
Phantom may have picked him up from Madras, as the vessel is supposed to
have visited Madras on a previous trip in 1842/43 where it also picked up
a 'passenger'.

Also does anyone have sources for information on the British army history
in the Punjab
area particularly involving the 9th Regiment of Foot between 1840 - 1845.

Sincerely
Jeni King
