Judy,
In the various Atlases I own, Dinapore is also spelt as Dinapur and
Danapur. It is located just outside of Patna to the NNW at 25deg 38 min
North and 85 deg 2 min East. Allahabad is located some 320 kms almost due
west of Dinapore and is at 25 deg 26 min North and 81 deg 51 min East.
Patna and Allahabad are joined by a railway
There must have been some relationship between the two towns as my
Ggrandfather's parents lived in Dinapore when he joined the Royal Irish
Fusiliers in Allahabad in 1895. My GGgrandfather was an inspector in the
Bengal Police - so perhaps Dinapore was a regional center for the Bengal
Civil Service. However this is pure speculation at this time and requires
more research <bg>.
Hope this helps
