There's a reference to 'Benmore' and Kipling in Raja Bhasin's 'Simla',
(Penguin 1994) p.116 : -

What have we ever done to bear this grudge?
Was there no room save only in Benmore?
For docket, duftar, and for office drudge?
That you usurp our smoothest dancing floor?

Bhasin's book has an extensive bibliography which might help.

I seem to remember Edward Buck's 'Simla Past and Present' (1925) mentions
individual residences. I don't have copy to hand, but can recommend it to
anyone interested in life at Simla. A hefty but fascinating volume.
