Hello there, this is my first posting to this list.

I wonder if the name Charles FRENCH means anything to anyone on the list?

Legend has it that he came via Ireland, but he enlisted in the East India
Company Army at Pembroke in 1786, and sailed to Madras.

I wonder if people from afar (say Ireland) would be likely to go to
Pembroke to enlist?

Perhaps one couldn't enlist in the HEIC in Ireland.

Any thoughts?
