Hi, Folks, especially those of us interested in both Aussie History, and
that of the Scots in India,

Please remember that our good governor, Lachlan Macquarie, spent nearly
ternty years on Army service in Inmdia, and much of it down in Southern
india, dealing with the Mysore people, and Tippoo in particular.

" Lachlan McQuarie, His Life, Adventures", and times devotes much of it's
opening chapters to his Active Service in ans aroundSeringapatum, from his
entry into military Service in 1776, his voyage out to Oz, when he met
Bligh in Capetown,to his arrival in Bombay in 1786. His extraordinary
struggles on active service are covered in great detail. His early love
life gets a good mention too. He spent nearly twenty years in India, before
the Australian venture emerged as a possibility for him.

Jim R Eumundi, Qld, Oz

The book was published in 1947,Author MH Ellis, Dymocks Book Arcade, Sydney
- certainly available at all major libraries in Australia - would hope it
might be on show, or available in India for this National Gallery
Exhibition too.
