Rev. John Roberts (1745-1815) and his wife Anne Sandys had four sons:
John Roberts (1773-1837) who married Grace Dobbyn (d. 1854)
Thomas Roberts (1778-1855)
Abraham Roberts (Lord Roberts father)
Samuel roberts (1785-1848)

The sibling John Roberts listed above and his wife Grace had 6 children:
John Dobbyn Roberts (probably died young), Anne Roberts, Abraham Roberts
(1804-1869), Elizabeth roberts, Michael Roberts, and Hester Roberts.

The (1804-1869) Abraham Roberts married Catherine Emily Goodall
(1807-1849) and they had 5 children: Isabella Roberts, Grace Roberts,
John Roberts (1829-?), James Goodall Roberts, and Abraham Goodall
Roberts.

Possibly the signature belongs to this last John Roberts, but without a
date of death, we can't be sure. My great grandfather is a John
Roberts, but he wasn't born until 1861. The practices of naming
children after other relatives would certainly point to your John
Roberts as a relative, but it could readily be an uncle.
