Thanks to Tony for answering Keith Torckler's query.
I had forgotten about Andrea's site - we haven't heard from her in a long
while, though seem to think she used to be subscribed to this list.
Hardy's Registers, like many other sources at the OIOC which are not
available on microfilm or duplicated in other major libraries are unfamiliar
to me.
My best alternative for searching for a report of this unnamed but dated
shipwreck would be to try and locate a newspaper report for the time.
Only difficulty is that we are not sure where abouts it happened - "En route
to India" - covers an awful lot of ocean and information could be found in
"The Times", a Bombay paper, or a Calcutta one, or even a Madras paper (but
I don't know any fromMadras for the time period concerned)

With regard to excerpts from the Bengal Almanac - for the benefit of newer
listers, these chronological summaries are for the 5 year period 1836 - 1840
and come from a single book which was bought at some expense earlier last
year, so am trying to get maximum value out of it! It contains a large
number of Acts, rules, regulations, including Civil Service regs, Pension
Fund regulations etc etc
