Hi folks
Just finished my list of all the HEIC ships which will be going onto the mariners web site in the
near future (together with some of my other maritime research).
Lisa Goad had a query about the Royal Henry.
There was only one HEIC ship called the Royal Henry, a regular ship of 842 tons, which sailed
between the sailing seasons 1771/72 to 1781/82 during which time it undertook 4 voyages to India and
back.
There is no evidence of the ship still being afloat in 1837. In fact, because the ship was UK
built, it is almost certain that it was long since broken up.
My list only goes as far as the end of the tea monopoly in 1833 when the HEIC stopped hiring ships
except for its own use and the sailing routes to India were opened to other shipping firms and
traders. Suggest that you try the Lloyds List (probably in the green books) for another Royal
Henry - there are copies in the Guildhall Library in London and various other repositories around
the world.
Regards
Tony Fuller
