Hi all
As one who is (very) new to this business of geneology, I need all the help
I can get!
My father did some preliminary work on his mothers family, the Wingroves,
and
from notes he left, it would seem that several of the Wingrove family lived
in Middleton Street, Calcutta. several were born there. Russell
Street, the Church of St John's and the English Burial Ground figure
prominantly in his notes. I have no idea whether they were anything to do
with the East
India Company, but I believe they were merchants. Some of the births
ocurred around 1840-60, to give a time scale.
One interesting fact was that one William Edward Wingrove was buried at the
Cape of Good Hope in January 1863 - I would presume drowned in a shipwreck.
I have been to the Cape, but I have no idea where he is buried, presumably
not at the actual Cape. Does anyone know of a ship that was wrecked there
at that time?
Any info and/or help would be very gratefully received.
Thanks
Mike Rice
