Hi Folks
Nice to see Mike Lavocah giving Seth's book another airing.
I have posted several messages about this book in the past. I am - when I
find the time - rewriting the book for publication by a major UK publisher.
Seth had a particular agenda to follow and, in the words of a good chum who
actually knew him in India, was a bitter, bigoted old man when he died. But, his book is still
the only game in town. However, many of his historical 'facts' have long since been disproved and
his views of what history was is just totally bigoted. He plays up the role of his family, fails to
mention some of the major Armenian families against whom he had taken against for real or imagined
slights and is sycophantic to some to the point of skewing history. And in some places his book is
deeply personally racist.
Mike, if you have any particular families in which you have an interest let
me know because I have just about finished my Armenians in India data base using the OIOC records.
When I finish my current project on the mariners pension records, I'm going to have a go at
the Armenian Church records - as some people in Australia already are - and will finish the
rewrite of the Seth book.
There are also articles about Armenian churches together with some photos and Armenian MIs in
Bengal Past and Present and the journals of the varios UK and Indian Asiatic Societies.
Regards
Tony Fuller
