Mike Lavocah posted an enquiry regarding missing periods of Madras Presidency
R.C. Parish records and speculates that the LDS are unlikely to have the
information he was accessing on film at the OIOC since he was accessing a film
made for them by the LDS.

Others especially newer list members may benefit from this reply:
Mike you said:

Firstly Mike - a caution! Baptisms do not necessarily coincide with the actual
birth and Mary LAVACA may have been baptised even as late as last rites at
death so do not be ridgid in the quarter in which she was likely baptized.

You are correct that between Volume 7 and Volume 8 of the indexed RC returns,
that the LDS film (0530011) appears to omit a period, but according to the
film description, the missing period it appeats to be 1846-1851 .... not 1848
- 1852 as you stated.

FURTHER RESOURCES:
If on looking at the film again, you do not find the entry you were looking
for, Gilbert Raymond and Dorothy Thomas did disclose in June 2000 to the list,
that the recent filming of original Parish Registers of the RC Catholic
Diocese of Madras affords us with a _New_ access to possibly 'unreturned' RC
events. The situation however will require you to be aware of the Parish
since these do not appear to be indexed.

Since you were looking for the baptism pariculars, I don't know which church
that would have been recorded in since there does not appear to have been a St
Patrick's in Vepery. Others on the list perhaps can suggest what the
significance of St Patrick's Oratory and whether it had connection with St
Patricks at St Patrick's at St Thomas' Mount. (Another email to list on that
might help in case this email is too long to read :-)

Gilbert Raymond originally wrote to the list in June 2000 with the LDS Film
Numbers of _recently_ filmed original R.C. Parish Registers of The Arch
Diocese of Madras
Vepery-St Joseph's Church 2048990-2048991
Vepery-St Andrew's Church 2048991-2048993

Dorothy Thomas kindly broke down (her email 17 June in the Archives), the
detailed periods of many of the available films - including these for Vepery:

2048983
P.R. 1840-1999, Church of the Presentation of the Lord, Royapettah
P.R. 1751-1996, St. Patrick's, St. Thomas Mount

2048984
P.R. 1751-1996, St. Patrick's, St. Thomas Mount

2048985
P.R. 1751-1996, St. Patrick's, St. Thomas Mount

2048991
P.R. 1930-1999, St. Joseph's, Vepery
P.R. 1840-1999, St. Andrew's, Vepery

2048992 P.R. 1840-1999, St. Andrew's, Vepery

2048993
P.R. 1840-1999, St. Andrew's, Vepery
P.R. 1954-1999, St. Francis De Sales, Tirovallur, Chingleput

Trust this helps you and others Mike. Don't forget to check the archives for
Gill and Dorothy's original posts in case I missed something.
Happy New Year
Gordon and Evelyn.
