Subject: [India-L] PASLEY/PAISLEY: LEECH/LEACH

I would like to hear from anyone researching these names in India, and for
some advice.

Mary PAISLEY (died c.1857) was my 2nd great-grandmother, and married George
Roan DUNCAN (1799-c.1898), at Kamptee on 30 Dec.1840. She was a widow at
the time of this marriage, and I searched in OIOC, finding that Sgt.
William PASLEY (sic) of HM 50th Reg't. died on 6 May 1840. Searching
further, I found that Sgt. William PASLEY (39th Rgt.) had married Mary
LEECH, 'spinster, European', at Bangalore, on 29 April 1835.

Is it possible that William PASLEY changed regiments between 1835 and 1840?
Bearing in mind that the surname is not a common one, can I be confident
that the different spelling of the name PASLEY and PAISLEY is a
transcription error? (I've found other transcription errors in OIOC).

I have not yet found a baptismal record for Mart LEECH, tho' I have found
one for Mary LEACH, daughter of Corporal John LEACH, 32nd Dragoons, said to
be born on 7 Feb.1815.

Any suggestions for further research would be much appreciated.
Brian DUNCAN
