There were two occaisions when the book "The Jadu House" by Laura Roychowdhury were mentioned on the list last year. I have recently read the book and am surprised that there has not been comment on it on the list. It is about the life of present day Anglo-Indians in Calcutta. I would be interested to hear comments from others who have read this book particularly Anglo-Indians currently resident in India. Is this really a true reflection of the life of Anglo-Indians? I would imagine that many would find it very contentious. Like it or loath it, it is a book that cannot be ignored. Even if some of the descriptions are more fictional than factual they make excellent reading. The description of the Railway offices in Calcutta read like a cross between Charles Dickens and Franz Kafka and alone are worth the price of the book.
Anyone else read this book? Any comments?
