I apologize to all who were offended by my introduction of the Christmas Island boat people. I meant merely to illustrate Alice Hume's social dilemma, by giving an up-to-the-minute example of a politically difficult decision on a moral issue. That was imprudent of me. I did NOT mean the boat-people thing to be taken out of context, and agree that our List is not the place to discuss them.

Our List does from time to time veer off-topic, and I ask forgiveness for being at fault this time.
