Just joined this list as I have found my gggrandfather spent many years in Calcutta as Inspector H.rn(?) Dockyards and that is maybe why I cannot find his sons birth in Hampshire UK in 1857.
I would be really grateful if someone could interpret the initials as shown above from my ggg's marriage cert. - Capital Hdot lower case rn. I cant get this to mean His M Royal Navy? or Harbour rn?
or is it an Indian word abbreviated.
Also where can I search online for any records of the family of William and Isabella Cato ( nee Morrison) in India? I am aware of only two children - Thomas Anson Cato and Jessie Lily ( birth reg. 1865 St Bartholomew Southsea.
