Hello,
Will appreciate any information/advice/pointers about my maternal family connection starting in India.
The following imprecise details have come from my late mother:

1. Colonel Murray Holmes, b 1810, Regiment NK served in India.
2. Married an Indian, her name,date and place of marriage NK.
3. Daughter, b 1833, her name and place of birth NK.
4. No further details known of Murray Holmes. Believe that his wife died soon after their daughter was born.
5. Daughter (Miss Holmes) came to UK with Major Penrice, who became her Guardian.
6. Miss Holmes married a soldier (Lifeguard) Johnson, said to be from a farming family from Cumberland.
7. Their son Edward Thomas Johnson b 1855 was my mother's grandfather. His son, my mother's father also Edward Thomas b 1877.

This is a genealogists' nightmare the dates are unconfirmed, names and places mainly missing!

But somewhere, someone could have information about Col Murray Holmes and his Indian wife, their daughter, and Major Penrice, her Guardian.

Will be very grateful for any help.
