Hello Charles

Its an interesting name, and some internet sites show a family of Shoolbreds
in London who were furniture makers. The IGI records have about 145
Schoolbreds many from Fife. This would seem to be your man:

118. John SHOOLBRED - International Genealogical Index
Gender: M Christening: 13 Mar 1766 Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland

Apologies if you have this information already.

Cheers
Barry Price

was employed as a surgeon by the East India Company. From his name, he
would appear to have come from a family based in Fife, Scotland. From
family records, I think his father was James Shoolbred of Auchtermuchty, but
I have no corroboration for that. Here are some more pieces of
information:

'coming home' or simply a visit. His retirement year I have recorded as
1821.

HMS married a Scots naval captain fetched up liiving in England.

since I am more interested to know of anything you do know than to restrict
your reactions. Open questions that particularly interest me, however,
would include firmer details on the birth of his daughter Helen, and on
whether there were any other children, plus on what happened to his wife.
Corroboration or correction of what I think I know of his provenance would
also, of course, be welcome (though maybe is less likely to be relevant to
subscribers to this list).
