Subject: Lord Gardner

In the early 1990s, Prof. Maurice Bierbrier of the British Museum discovered
documents revealing that several Gardner marriages presumed to have been
solemnised under Muslim law were actually by Christian rite. Mr. Julian
Gardner, a former railwayman who now farms part of his family's property in
UP was contacted by the British High Commission.

Julian Gardner descends directly from both Gardner families to have
contested the barony since the late 19th century. A son makes his career in
Bombay and one or both of his daughters teach in Allahabad. In 2000, Mrs.
Christabel Luke (dr) reported that the family were to make a visit to the UK.
Alas, I gather the government has scrapped Mr. Gardner's entry to the House
of Lords.

Julian Lord Gardner is a member of the Anglo-Indian community and the
family are known as a Good Bunch!

cheers,
Megan
