Dear John,

I heard on Friday that the PRO are seriously considering (meaning
WILL do) destroying the original overseas records currently held -
due to storage considerations. Please look at:
http://www.ffhs.org.uk/Societies/Liaison/News.htm where the Family
History Federation have posted the news and their response. I want to
pass this on to the India list - if lots of people respond as
individuals, 'the powers' may be persuaded to take up the FFHS offer
to re-house these records and not destroy them.

Why are they SO important? Because these are the originals, and we
all know how mistakes creep in when copies are made - and it is the
copies which will be kept!!

Please read the relevant pages and I will 'compose' a message to the
list - but not send it until I hear from you. The response from
'users' has to be received by the 15th November - less than 2 weeks
from now, so time is of the essence.

My senior doctor is chair of the Birmingham & Midland FHS, and I only
saw him as my usual doc was booked up - meant or what?

Regards,
Ruth in Brum.
