Last month I recorded several abandoned graves at Sultanpet village, just
north of Nandi Hills, Karnataka State. I will post the data on this
cemetery to the web later this week.
I noted with interest that the stone on one of the graves, that of Major
John Edward Gabriel (died 25 Mar 1815), bears an inscription that
identifies him as a member of the Wallamabad [sic] Light Infantry. I did
the obvious web searches but can't come up with much on the Wallajabad
Light Infantry, aka Wallajabad Madras Infantry. I will greatly appreciate
any information and bibliographic references that listers can share with
me about this unit.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance.
Cheers
Barry Lewis
