I have search India-L archives regarding adoptions in the 1800's but can
find nothing helpful. I have a suspicion that my gggrandfather was adopted
in India circa 1832 in the Madras Presidency. Is anyone aware of the
methodology of adoption, whether official HEIC records were kept. If in
the affirmative, are they accessible now and if so where.
