Looking for information on Pulicat, using "Google" I came across the following book which it is said will appear in the summer of 2003.

"Journey in a Palankin" Jacob Haafner 1785-1786. The write-up begins........."In the autumn Haafner Calcutta left 1785, in order to drive in the south in the formerly niederlaessischen and French addresses of the Koromandelkueste old accounts receivable and turn its merchandise over."
(I think something has been lost in the translation but it sounds interesting!)

An idea of what is in each chapter is given and you can see this by going to www.jacob-haafner.de/reisene. I was excited to see a Meppen name I recognised. I shall,of course,be attempting to get a copy of this book if it is available in English and hopefully the translation will be an improvement on the above. .

May be of interest to someone
