Response from Ken Robbins:
I don't know if any of the Sassoon mills had factories in Mhow or Indore.
THeir names included: Dawn, Union, David, Apollo, Elphinstone. Alexandria,
Turkey Red. Manchester. etc/ There was also Sir Hukum Chand's Cotton Mill in
Indore which was not owned by the Sassoons I believe

Hello Ken,

I believe that I may have an 'indirect interest' in the Sassoons! My

grandfather, William Grimshaw, went to India in about 1914 as manager of a

weaving mill. It was either in Mowh or Indore, I am not sure which. I am

under the impression that the mill was owned by the Sassoon family. Later my

grandfather was manager of a weaving mill in Sholapur. He retired to England

in 1936/37.

I can recall a visit to see my grandparents, (I was seven), with my parents,

in about 1934. My father was the manager of a weaving mill in Cawnpore at

the time. He went to India in about 1925/26. My father later set up his own

thread manufacturing company in Bombay by the name of the Acme thread

Company. He sold the business in 1948 and retired to England.

I would be very interested to know about the Sassoon family and whether my

recollections are correct!
