I am researching my paternal ancestors and was advised to join this
mailing list. And how glad I am of that advice!
Upon searching through the old submissions, I think I found an email
dating back to 1999 regarding my great-grandfather James Tomlinson.
I have emailed the person who submitted the mail, but wonder if I
will receive a response as it's now 5 years later.
Therefore I wanted to post some information here to see if anybody
has any ties. Details are:
James Tomlinson married Winifred MacPherson-Fraser (not sure of
spelling). James died 7 January 1959 in St Osyth, Essex, England.
They had 4 children that I know of, James, Jack, Gertrude and my
grandfather Frederick Edwin Tomlinson (born 9 February 1909 in India,
no idea where). Apparantly Fred had some cousins born out in India
too, so more of the family must have moved out. I have no details on
why they moved or for how long.
The post I previously mentioned, dated 1999, states that James Ernest
Tomlinson (b Mansfield, Notts, 1880) married Winifred MacPherson
Fraser (b India 1880) in Naini Tal (1901). Winifred's father was
called John FRASER, who was a Brewer. Family tradition has it that
his father was of Scottish origin, and his mother was Indian. That's
pretty much as much as I know. My grandmother (who was born in Naini
Tal) used to tell us wonderful stories about her childhood in India.
But she also said that all family-related records (including her
birth certificate) were destroyed in a fire at one of the records
offices. The post was submitted by Kirsty Willis.
If anybody has any information regarding anybody noted above,
including Kirsty, who I'd love to contact, please do contact me. So
much information ties up that I'm sure these are the same people.
thanks
Julie Tomlinson (married to Crosby)
