Hello out there, the book "A Mountain in Tibet" by Charles Allen, has a
very interesting section, 'Edmund Smyth and the Pundits', on the work of
the earlier Pundits and their remarkable work for the Survey of India.

Charles Allen was also the author of "Plain Tales from the Raj".
