Hi Eddie,
45h NI is the 45th Regiment of Native Infantry of the East India Company
Army.
The 45th Regiment of Foot is an Infantry Regiment of the Queen's or British
Army, founded in 1741, and which eventually went on to become The Sherwood
Foresters in the 1880's.
Regards,
Anthony West.

but what does the N I stand for? There is a 45th Nottingham Foot in the
British Army or would it be 'Native Infantry'?
