Ruth there is a wonderful book, if you have not read it you must
find a copy! It is about Mary Jemison, white woman of the Genesee.
There are several but I recommend the one by James E. Seaver, edited
by June Namias. Published by University of OK press in 1992. Seaver
interviewed Mary for three days before her death and wrote the book
back in the 1824. Namias brought the story into modern day language
so it is easy to read.
Best Wishes,
Carolyn
Remember, you have a friend in Oklahoma!
