Subject: [InFounta] Abraham Lowry request
Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 13:59:40 -0700
For years, my cousin and I have tried to locate the cemetery in Fountain County where Abraham Lowry was laid to rest. We have also been unable to locate a will for him. Since he was only about 42 years old when he died, we speculate that he might not have had a will, and was possibly killed in an accident or was the victim of a raging epidemic.
Abraham Lowry died in Fountain County on 9 March 1836, according to the bounty land application later filed by his wife, Rachel Hicks Lowry. We believe he was born about 1794 in Kentucky. In 1820, he was in Ohio with his young family and arrived in Fountain County prior to 1830.
The family was in Edgar County, Illinois by 1840, with the exception of his daughter, Elizabeth who married John Hardy. We believe that John Hardy is also buried in Fountain County, possibly near the location of burial of Abraham Lowry. John probably died between 1840 and 1850.
Elizabeth Lowry Hardy and her children later moved to Edgar County as well. They were there by 1850.
Any help would be so appreciated. We finally found Rachel's grave this past year in McClean County, where she had gone to live with (or near) one of her sons. Rachel lived for another 40 years after her husband passed away. She died in 1876.
We would like to find Abraham - and John Hardy.
