Mrs. Rebecca Alice Hummer, wife of William A. Hummer and who traced her
ancestery back to those who were prominently connected in Civil War days
with Harper's Ferry, where John Brown was hung for his anti-slavery views,
died early Wednesday night at the family residence on Clinton St of this
city. She was 69 years of age. Unless word is received from relatives in
the eatern states to make changes necessary, the funeral will be Saturday
afternoon at the first M.E. Church. Burial will be in Crownland Cemetery.
Mrs. Hummer had not been well for years and the past nine weeks was bedfast.
Her death was attributed to heart trouble and Bright's disease. She is
survived by the husband, two children; Mary A and John L, and three brothers:
Hugh A. and Peace E. of Noblesville and J. Dean of Carmel, In. Mrs Hummer
was born in this county on Jun 1, 1862. She married Mr. Hummer May 31,
1881. They spent all of their married life in Hamilton Co. with exception
of 8 or 10 years when they resided in Indianapolis and Dayton, Ohio.
(This next portion is in error) "She was the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth
Hamble" having been born on a farm northeast of Noblesville.
Her grandfather, Seth R Maker entered this land from the government.
