William was the second of 12 children born to James Sturedvant and Nancy Brintle. The first four (including William and my gggrandmother, Frances or Franky) were born in Lunenburg county, Virginia. The family was in Surry county, NC by 1822. William had two children with Ruth Cloud, Martha and Shepard (Shepherd) and at least 5 with second wife, Caroline Bowers Jackson (b 1829, NC, d after 1880 IN)
Mary E. was born 1852 Surry NC, James H. b 1854 Hamilton IN, Albert H. b 1855, Lucy E. b 1858, Eliza b 1861, Elcanes (Elkanah) b 1864. At least three of William's sisters moved to Hamilton county also. (Franky m. Samuel P. France; ELiza m. Asa Wiles, Elizabeth m. Christian Wiles. All three were connected with Hinkles Creek Quaker meeting.) Look for web site by Mary K. Harris. She has very good infomation on early Sturdevants, although she did not have all the information listed the last time I checked. It appears Shepherd is buried at Boxley cemetary, so William may be also. Hope this will help.
