I have in my possession a photocopy of the death certificate for my great
grandmother (Beatrice Letitia (STEELE) KIDD). On it, is listed place of
birth for her parents. Her father, (Frank Newton STEELE) I know from other
sources, was born in Jackson County, Indiana. On this certificate, his place
of birth appears to state "Marltrie, Indiana". The source of this is
indicated as being "Mrs. F. Steele". Frank Steele's wife (Susanna SINGLE)
was still alive at the time of her daughter (Beatrice Letitia)'s death, so
she must be the "Mrs. F. Steele indicated". I would imagine she would be an
accurate source for his place of birth. He was born 8/03/1868 to John Steele
and Mary Ann FOSTER.

I have not been able to find Marltrie on any maps. Is this, or was this, a
correct place name?
