Caleb Scott & his wife, Mary (Ivens) Scott arrived, from Lexington Township, Ohio in 1850. Their oldest son, Abraham came later, with his family. 6 sons volunteered during the Civil War. Caleb Shreeve & Isaac joined the 30th Indiana when the regiment was formed in 1861. Samuel joined them in 1862. Caleb Shreeve was captured at Chickamauga & subsequently died in Danville prison. Their regiment withstood numerous assaults during the battle, including the night assault by Cleburne's troops when 200 or 300 prisoners were captured. They also took part in a bayonet charge almost as soon as they arrived on the battlefield, which resulted in heavy losses. Since 2 of his brothers were present, I am wondering if information passed down in the family about his capture. I am descended from one of their sisters, Mary Jane Mercy Scott McCloughan, who died in 1865, leaving 2 small children. Nothing about this passed down in my branch of the family.
