Roosevelt High School, East Chicago Indiana Class of 1945
CRYSTAL GAZING
________
I have often wondered what the future holds for the class of 1945. As
I gaze in the crystal, I find that Mary ARMANI wants to be a nurse at
St. Catherine's. Mary Ann BANKS wants to be the captain of the National
Champion Girl's Basketball team; Richard BIELECKI would like to be the
head time-keeper at Indland Steel; Priscilla DIPERNA, a secretary to a
prominent E.C. Dentist; John FIRCZAK, just plain labor work at Contin-
ental; Harold GOODRICH would like to be happily married to Lillian SUCHEY.
I see a handsome young coach of the Rough Riders, none other than Jack
REIL; Florence TORHAN has poetry anthologies in the E.C. Library and David
WELLS would like to be a celloist in the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
Carol HEIMERAL has in mind to be a concert pianist touring England;
Bob HUISH looks forward to being editor of a large newspaper; Joan KAY is
thinking of being a travel companion of a famous opera star; little Val
KOMANICH has her heart set on teaching Spanish to a bunch of oversized
football players; we also find that Phyllis MATTSON would enjoy writing
poetry for the Chicago Tribune; Bill MCSHANE wants to coach the Kiwanis
Cardinals; I see Alice MULHOLLAND as the National Tennis Champ being
coached by Dot HORVATH; and Charles PALMER aspires to be the Mayor of
E.C.
Now we all have a picture of what the ambitious 1945 graduates are
going to do when they get out of school.

I have a few issues of Rough Riders from 1941-1945 because my father, Robert
"Bob" Huish was Press Manager in 1945, and a class of 1945 graduate. By the
way, he did go on to be the General Business Manager for Calumet News.
