Kathy:
My mom tells stories of walking in downtown Gary, 6th and Tyler I
think. My dad grew up at 4th & Grant, I'll bet your mom and he were
neighbors. We drove down Grant and took a pix of the old house.
Still looked pretty good. He was born in 1926, his parents were C.L.
"Red" and Effie Whitney. Dad graduated from Horace Mann. I may be
dating myself, but I remember riding the bus from Glen Park to
downtown with my sister when I was 8 and she was only 13! It was
quite the adventure to go to Sears and Goldblatt's and eat at the
Kreskge diner counter! Well, we'll always have our memories! It is
too bad the old buildings can't be saved, but you are right...after
they are fixed, how long before they are ruined again. I was glad to
see St. Mark's still up and operating. Our whole family went to grade
school there until we moved to Indianapolis in 1967. Well, enough
blbbing, thanks again for your help.
