MRS. GEHRKE, 88, SURVIVOR OF CHICAGO FIRE IS DEAD
Woman, who was pioneer in Whiting, will be buried Saturday
Mrs. Mary GEHRKE, 88, who resided in Chicago during the great fire, died last night at her home,
1108 Summer Street, from anemia.
Mrs. GEHRKE settled in Whiting in 1885 and moved to Hammond 20 years ago. She had been a
member of the Daughters of Liberty in Whiting for 40 years.
In addition to her three sons and five daughters, Mrs. GEHRKE is also survived by 45
grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Services from the Neidow Chapel with Rev. Buel E. Horn of the Whiting Methodist
Church officiating.
Burial in the Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.
